Within the course “Intermodal Transport Services”, the basics of transport logistics systems and problem-solving skills for transport logistics problems and issues are taught.

At the macro level, the lines and nodes of the observed systems are demonstrated. Following this introduction, the modes of transport road, rail, water and air are systematically examined with regard to their specific characteristics and requirements. Production and handling concepts and the container and loading equipment used are also presented.

In addition to network types, the nodes of macro-logistics systems and operator concepts as well as business models and strategies of the involved actors are analyzed. Following current and future challenges, intermodal and intercontinental transport networks will be shown and further explored .

During the course, guest lectures by leading representatives of the actors involved in international transport chains will underline the practical relevance of the topic.

After successful completion of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of international multimodal transport chains and will be able to independently develop solution concepts, both for theoretical and practical transport logistics issues from the perspective of the actors involved and from an overarching perspective.
