How do Germany's non-craneable semi-trailers get from road to rail?

2025/03/13

Did you know that a good 70% of all freight transport on Germany's roads is carried out by semi-trailers, of which only a single-digit percentage can be lifted by crane? How can more goods be shifted to rail? CargoBeamer wants to tackle the problem and offers an exciting solution: the non-craneable semi-trailers are placed in so-called baskets and can therefore be easily handled in existing terminals. In CargoBeamer's own terminals, which specialize in automated horizontal transshipment, an entire freight train can even be transshipped within 20 minutes. This not only offers economic advantages, it also facilitates access to rail for SMEs.

We are delighted that Jonathan Schröer from CargoBeamer showed our students at the House of Logistics and Mobility how this technology strengthens combined transport in Germany and Europe. An exciting insight into practice, away from the lecture hall.

Many thanks for the great exchange with our students! We look forward to the next time.
