How can platforms and digitalization provide a boost to Combined Transport?

2024/06/12

Combined Transports with the handling of complete semi-trailers or containers are complex to organize. Two of our research projects at the Technical University of Darmstadt are investigating the potential of digitalization to make Combined Transport more attractive.

In an interview with Prof. Elbert, Paul Bossong, Anne Friedrich and Hongjun Wu, Deutsche Verkehrs-Zeitung delves into our “ConnectedKV” and “DataKV” projects, both funded by the House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM). The “ConnectedKV” project is researching how digital platforms can reduce the complexity of Combined Transport (CT), which business models are emerging and what the drivers and barriers to using these platforms are. The “DataKV” project is investigating the challenges of data usage and communication in CT, what a digitalization solution should look like in the future and what potential it offers for optimizing processes and coordination in the CT chain.

Both projects are based on a large number of interviews with industry experts and players in Combined Transport. This gives us deep insights into the backgrounds of the players involved and enables us to develop practical solutions that can increase the efficiency of Combined Transport. Follow our department now and find out more about our exciting projects and the role of digitalization in logistics!
